Applications Engineer

Position is located in Milford, MA (this is not a remote job)

JOB SUMMARY

The Applications Engineer performs a wide variety of technical assessments of Customer and Market requirements in support of Sales and Business development activities, reviews design, performance and overall systems requirements and functional data with the engineering group, develops and prepares detailed proposals for potential and existing accounts/customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Provides guidance in the design and development of Semiconductor wafer handling automation equipment and systems, and redesign of existing systems to fulfil the needs of customers. Responsibilities include providing robotic equipment and control systems functionality and capability reports to the sales force, developing operating procedures, equipment specifications.

· Serves as a technical expert advisor to sales staff for pre-sales presentations and custom demonstrations.

· Provides key advice and answers questions for technical matters and equipment effectiveness on behalf of Tier 1 customers.

· Guides sales planning efforts, demonstrates the product suite, and resolves related customer issues.

· Researches, collects, and reports information on the ability and performance of company products and competing equipment. Key player in developing new generation products based on market research and competitive analysis.

· Responsible for conceptual development, cost estimates and writing detailed technical proposals for all types of automation equipment and projects.

· Develops presentations and training programs, evaluates customer layouts, and creates detailed customer specifications.

· Involves key members of the Engineering team in cost estimates and conceptual layouts for projects with high technical complexity. Obtains and prepares detailed estimates of time, quantities, labor and material costs required for work areas such as; hardware design, software development, testing, machine building, equipment installations and manufacturing processes.

· Works closely with manufacturing, field service, engineering and sales staff to orchestrate cross-department collaboration on behalf of customer technical requirements.

· Assists engineers and other technical staff in design and development of products, systems, processes and equipment by analyzing technical problems and working closely to customer specifications.

· Assembles and collects all necessary technical information and customer specifications in order to prepare detailed proposals.

· Assists in special projects in support for engineering and sales and marketing.

· Adequately defines scope of work in proposals to allow project manager and project team to begin work on a project.

· Collaborates with R&D Engineering to execute testing and qualification of new products. Identifies needs and recommends new products and/or changes to existing products.

· Conducts acceptance testing, internal and external trainings when new equipment is deployed.

· Analyses equipment logs to improve process performance and product flow.

· Works with Service personnel to identify and resolve complex technical support issues.

· Builds and maintains relationships with customers, gaining the trust of the customers to become their technical interface

· Works effectively in a geographically dispersed team. Must be able to use all forms of communication (e-mail, phone, text, chat, etc.) to stay connected with customers and Milara personnel.

· Meets agreed upon goals and objectives in a timely manner.

· Arrives to work, meetings, appointments, and other work-related functions on time and as scheduled.

· Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.

· Two to four years of experience in wafer handling automation is a must-have.

· Three years of experience in mechanical/electrical systems design and applications engineering, working knowledge of material handling, robotics, machine controls and manufacturing engineering and processes. Requires solid technical assessment and presentation skills, knowledge of preparing complex proposals and quotes.

· Demonstrated technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and design tools such as 2D and 3D software AutoCAD and Solidworks.

· Experience working directly with Tier 1 customers and managing their expectations.

· Must be fluent in English, written and spoken.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primary Environment: Normal office environment. Secondary Environment: Manufacturing environment; may be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts, and exotic materials.

EQUIPIMENT/MACHINERY USED

Computer, telephone, automation equipment (robots, prealigners, EFEMs)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sitting, bending, reaching, manual dexterity, visual acuity, driving, lifting up to 25 lbs, and possible travel in an aircraft including overnight stays in the United States and other countries.
